While it wasn’t the prize they wanted, a pair of Kamloops Blazers won’t be leaving the Memorial Cup empty handed.
Captain Logan Stankoven won the George Parsons Trophy as the Memorial Cup’s most sportsmanlike player. He’s the second Blazer to win the award after Jarome Iginla in 1995.
The Dallas Stars prospect, who was playing in his hometown finished with a tournament-best seven assists and nine points without taking a penalty in four games.

Those nine points were good enough for Stankoven to also win the Ed Chynoweth Trophy as the tournament’s leading scorer. He beat out Kyle Crnkovic of the Seattle Thunderbirds, who had eight points (five goals and three assists) in five games.
Stankoven is the first Blazer to win the top scorer award, which was first presented in 1996.
Meanwhile, Olen Zellweger, the 2022-23 CHL Defenceman of the Year, was the Blazers lone representative on the tournament’s All-Star team. Zellweger, an Anaheim Ducks prospect, had four points (one goal and three assists) in four games.
Crnkovic and teammate Nolan Allan joined Quebec Remparts goaltender William Rousseau, and forwards James Malatesta and Theo Rochette on the All-Star Team.
Malatesta took home the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy as tournament MVP, while Rousseau won the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy as the tournament’s best goaltender.
