Kamloops mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson was the lone dissenting vote on a City Council policy on confidential personnel records.
At the May 30 Closed Council Meeting, City Council voted 8-1 to adopt Council Policy GGL-30, which is set to go before the June 13 City Council meeting.
The policy aims to create rules for council that keep the city in compliance with privacy protection legislation.
It requires councillors to do a number of things including ensuring that all hardcopies of confidential personnel records given to them are returned to the Human Resources and Safety Director or their designate so it can be safely stored or destroyed, as needed.
The policy also requires that they delete all electronic copies of confidential personnel records and ensure that these records are not duplicated or given to unauthorized people for any reason.
Additionally, city councillors are also required to not use, discuss or disclose confidential personnel records or information with staff or people outside the City of Kamloops, unless they’re authorized to do so.
