The annual Canada Day celebrations will once again take over Riverside Park in Downtown Kamloops this Saturday.
The City of Kamloops says Canada Day will kick off with the Lions Club pancake breakfast from 7:00 to 10:30 am, and will be followed by the July 1 celebrations which will run from 9 am to 6 pm.
Organizers say there will be a plethora of family-friendly activities, including Art in the Park, music, and children’s festivities, in addition to the 48th edition of Folkfest.
Kamloops Multicultural Society President Ray Dhaliwal says there will also be several musicians and dancers performing across three stages this year.
“Last year we had to cut it back to two (stages) because of all the construction so our multicultural flag parade will start at 10:30 am as usual, followed by drumming at 11:00 am and then we do our opening ceremonies and then followed by the performances.”
On top of that, as part of Folkfest, Dhaliwal says there will also be a wide variety of food from all over the world.
“Filipino, we have our First Nations that come from Lillooet for the bannock, which is always a hit, Indo-Canadian, just a whole gamete of cultural foods again this year. We have about 11 different vendors this year, as well as we will have three food trucks in the park this year.”
Fireworks are also returning this year, with the roughly 20-minute show expected to kick off around 9:30 pm.
