A new campfire ban is now in-effect for the Kamloops Fire Center.
Effective as of noon Friday, the ban will be in-place until mid-October — unless there’s a dramatic change in the conditions.
With temperatures expected to hit above 35-degrees this weekend in Kamloops and the region, Taylor Shantz with the BC Wildfire Service is pleading for people to be cautious in the back-country.
“The forecast for the next couple of days is that temperatures will be above average, and there is a high potential for lightening, with very low precipitation or no precipitation,” warned Shantz. “The Fire Center is on alert. We are watching the weather closely and are resourced to be able to respond to any incidents that do happen.”
The Fire Danger Rating throughout the Kamloops Fire Center is considered high to extreme at this point.
This is the 2nd campfire ban put into effect by the BC Wildfire Service this season.
The first one was established on June 8th.
However, due to a spell of rain and cooler conditions, that ban was lifted a week later.
