A 15-year-old Kamloops girl was killed after she fell into the Akolkolex Falls near Revelstoke on Sunday, July 16.
Revelstoke RCMP say the teenager fell into the falls around 6 p.m. in the evening after she lost her footing while hiking on slippery rocks.
Mounties say the girl’s stepfather, who dove into the water to try and rescue her, also did not resurface, prompting search and rescue crews, police, paramedics, and firefighters to respond to the area about 30 kilometres southeast of Revelstoke.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy says the girl’s stepfather was found by a search and rescue helicopter crew and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The teenagers body was found the following day, but her identity is not being released at this time.
Grady says the BC Coroners Service is leading the investigation at this time.
