Some growth being reported through Tuesday on a pair of fires burning in the North Thompson, as well as a new blaze in the North Shuswap.
A new fire — listed as just 0.3 hectares as of Tuesday evening — broke out north of Anglemont, on the north side of Shuswap Lake late Tuesday afternoon.
It’s one of two fires which prompted the Shuswap Emergency Program to put out alerts for on Tuesday evening.
“The first fire reported is at Anglemont near Evelyn Falls,” said the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) in a release on Tuesday evening. “BC Wildfire Crews [had] a four-person RapAttack Crew on scene with two helicopters bucketing the blaze. This fire is being considered a high priority fire by BCWS [BC Wildfire Service].”
The other, which was tackled quickly Tuesday afternoon, was on a property in Scotch Creek which had threatened to spread quickly.
However, the CSRD says the Scotch Creek Lee Creek Fire Department, as well as the BC Wildfire Service, stopped it from growing a couple of hours later.
Meanwhile, the Bush Creek East fire burning east of Barriere is now 310-hectares in size, while a fire burning on the east side of Adams Lake is now listed as 60-hectares.
Both of those fires got going over a week ago, and were caused by lightening.
The Fire Danger Rating in the Kamloops Fire Center is currently Moderate to High, after coming down from High to Extreme thanks to some precipitation and slightly cooler temperatures earlier in the week.
However, that could change quickly amid increasing temperatures over the next few days.
The forecast is calling for the possibility of some rain in the Kamloops region through Thursday.
However, warm and sunny conditions are expected to persist through the weekend and into next week.
Meanwhile, the City of Kamloops says it will not be making any decisions on water restrictions this week, but suggests it will be providing an update next week.
Kamloops is currently listed in Drought Level 4, which is the 2nd highest level on the 6-level drought scale used by the BC government.
