The City of Kamloops says St. Paul and Battle streets should be back open at 6th Avenue in the near future.
The two intersections were closed to allow crews to work on the 6th Avenue bike lane from Columbia to Lansdowne Street.
“Urban Appeal Landscaping will be demobilizing from the site by the end of this week,” the City said. “At that time, the two construction equipment storage and laydown areas (St Paul Street, Battle Street) will be removed, cleaned up and the streets re-opened at 6th Avenue.”
The move will allow traffic downtown to once again flow more freely though the bike lane itself will remain closed until all of the required infrastructure is in place.
“Restoration work in the southwest corner of Columbia Street and 6th Avenue is scheduled for completion by the end of this week,” the City added.
“Crews will be completing signal work at the intersection of 6th Avenue and Victoria Street, as well as pavement markings throughout the project over the next few weeks.”
The three new transit shelters along the 6th Avenue corridor are also expected to be installed later this month. Once complete, all of the transit stops on the east side of 6th Avenue will be re-opened.
Construction on the 6th Avenue bike lane began in September last year, though work was halted a month later due to supply issues. Work resumed in March of this year.
Details are yet to be finalized, but here are also plans to add a bike lane along Lansdowne Street. Work is expected to take place there sometime next year.
