UPDATE 6:15 p.m. – The BC Wildfire Service says the Scuitto Creek wildfire, about 11 kilometres southeast of Kamloops, is currently being held at 14 hectares.
It means the wildfire is unlikely to spread beyond predetermined boundaries under current conditions.
The lightning-caused fire, which was discovered just after 10 a.m. Friday morning, sent up a plume of smoke that was visible from Kamloops and along Highway 5A.
“We still do have an initial attack crew that is on scene for that fire,” Information Officer, Melanie Bibeau, told Radio NL. “Crews are still working to do guard construction around this fire, so building hand guards.”
The BC Wildfire Service had a helicopter and skimmer planes on scene. They were joined by two trucks and four firefighters from Kamloops Fire and Rescue.
Much of the smoke seen in Kamloops Friday afternoon was due to the Ross Moore Lake fire, near Lac Le Jeune. At last update, it was estimated to be 90 hectares in size.
