UPDATE 9 p.m. – The BC Wildfire Service says the Ross Moore Lake fire near Lac Le Jeune has grown to 95 hectares in size.
It is burning out of control about 24 kilometres south of Kamloops though billowing smoke can be seen from across the City and in the surrounding areas including along the Coquihalla and Highway 5A corridors.
The fire, which was discovered at 1:48 p.m. this afternoon, was caused by a lightning strike during a storm on Thursday evening.
“We do have tankers actioning that fire and one helicopter,” Information Officer, Melanie Bibeau, told Radio NL. “Other BCWS ground personnel will be on site soon.”

A second fire at Scuitto Creek, about 11 kilometres southeast of Kamloops, is currently being held at 14 hectares in size. That fire, like a number of the other spot fires in that area, were also sparked during the same lightning storm.
As of the latest information, neither the Scuitto Creek or the Ross Moore Lake fire are threatening any structures.
