Work on the Copperhead Drive extension in Pineview is set to begin this month.
The City of Kamloops says Acres Enterprises will be working on Phase One of the three-phase project which will eventually connect Copperhead Drive to Aberdeen Drive.
Capital Projects Manager, Matt Kachel, says the first phase will also include utility extensions and servicing for the future Pineview Elementary School site.
“We’ll get enough road in so that the school district can get in and start doing their stuff and then we could come in next year and then do the paving and the surface work,” Kachel said.
Kachel says the project – which will see the construction of roughly 1.6 km of road as the crow flies according to Google Maps – will be equipped with street lighting, a multi-use pathway, sidewalk, landscaping, and future bus stop facility.
The City says there will be dust control measures in place through the entire construction period. There will also be limited trail access in the area, with people being told to obey all signs in the area.
“During construction, heavy equipment and vibratory equipment will be in use; therefore, any fragile items should be packaged or protected from damage due to vibration,” the City said. “There will also be noise disruption due to equipment on site.”
The entire project – which will also include a new stormwater pond and an emergency evacuation route connecting to Aberdeen – is set to be complete in late 2024.
Construction on the new Pineview Valley Elementary School is expected to begin next year ahead of a summer 2026 opening.
