The Columbia-Shuswap Regional District has rescinded evacuation alerts for 55 properties near the Lower East Adams Lake fire.
Those properties were put on alert just under two weeks ago, on July 20, along with one property in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and several on the Adams Lake Indian Band.
“Based on current and forecast fire behaviour, growth modelling, and further wildfire suppression the BC Wildfire Service recommended the rescinding of parts of the Evacuation Alert,” the BC Wildfire Service said, in a statement.
“Additionally, structure protection will be demobilized as a result of low wildfire threat to the community based on 7 days of bucketing operations for the helicopter’s full daily flying limit.
CSRD spokesperson Tracy Hughes says the 55 properties given the all clear Tuesday afternoon are located between 2597 and 2741 Rawson Road in Woolford Point Estates and Enns Reach.
An evacuation alert remains in place until further notice for 37 other CSRD properties between 2893 and 2900 Rawson Road, as pictured below.
“As this remains an active fire, residents should still regularly monitor the CSRD website, the Shuswap Emergency Program’s website, the Shuswap Emergency on Facebook and Twitter, the CSRD’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter platforms,” Hughes said.
The Adams Lake Indian Band has also modified its evacuation alert, giving people on the Adams Lake Indian Reserve I.R. 1 – Cstèlen (Hustalen) – the all-clear. People in properties in Dorian Bay remain on evacuation alert for the time-being.
“As this remains an active fire, I.R. 1 residents should stay prepared if the fire situation changes,” the Band said on Facebook.

The Lower East Adams Lake fire is now estimated to be 2,527 hectares – 25.2 square kilometres – in size, with the increase in size the result of more accurate mapping of the fire perimeter since the last update on July 24.
“The update reflects growth on the north and west flanks, where the fire has burned downslope towards Adams Lake,” the Wildfire Service said. “There has been no notable growth on the south flank.”
The suspected lightning caused fire – and the nearby 982 hectare Bush Creek East Fire on the other side of Adams Lake – have both been burning since July 12.
