Despite the rapid movement of the fire — forcing the urgent evacuation of properties Wednesday night — it seems, for now, that no homes or cabins have been lost due to the Lower East Adams Lake fire.
Forrest Tower with the BC Wildfire Service says the latest indications are the fire was kept from getting into the three different communities which are dotted along the eastern shores of Adams Lake.
“Looks like our crews, and the structure protection crews, were to keep it north — or on the opposite side — of properties on Dorian Bay of Rawson Road,” said Tower. “It has burned down quite extensively further east.”
Tower does say the fire did make it very close to properties and critical infrastructure.
“It has burnt kind of on that hillside north of Rawson Road, potentially down as far as the Ferry Terminal. Today, we’ll have our crews and structure protection engaged the area.”
He says crews are actively working to try to contain the fire.
Northerly winds began pushing the fire toward the eastern shores of Adams Lake yesterday afternoon and evening, forcing the CSRD and the TNRD to put close to 100-properties under an evacuation order.
The Adams Lake Indian Band has also put a number of properties on evacuation order as well.
This comes after the BC Wildfire Service withdrew its structural protection crews from the area on Monday, citing diminished threat from the fire.
#adamslake for those curious, this is the structure protection system that was put in to protect homes in Adams lake finishing on Sunday then RIPPED OUT – every sprinkler hose and pump – less than 15 hours later while @shuswapemerg proudly posted they had other units 'on standby' pic.twitter.com/Bz32ZwcQF5
