Kamloops Council has issued a response to the newest revelations connected to an ongoing investigation inside city hall.
The statement released on Friday, titled “Kamloops City Council Forges Ahead,” publicly names the Chief Administrative Officer as part of a show of support for city staff connected to the internal investigations taking place.
“Kamloops City Council is committed to serving Kamloops residents and moving our community forward,” said the statement. “In light of recent media reports, Council wants to express its full confidence in the City’s Chief Administrative Officer, David Trawin, and the entire senior leadership team at the City of Kamloops.”
This comes after Kamloops This Week unveiled further information about the internal investigation into allegations of workplace harassment levelled against Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson, which Radio NL first reported on in June.
The KTW report says the Mayor is not being allowed to meet with city Chief Administrative Officer David Trawin and three other city staff members without a third party present.
The report says it comes after the investigation into complaints of inappropriate conduct at city hall found the mayor violated council’s code of conduct numerous times by disrespecting and/or demeaning three employees who filed complaints against him in February.
Councillor Mike O’Reilly says there was a reason they decided to put CAO David Trawin’s name out publicly.
“His name was mentioned in the story that ran in KTW, so felt it was right to make sure that we pointed out that we singled out his name. But also, its all of our senior management. We have full confidence and full support of the team that we have in place.”
O’Reilly says despite the perceived internal strife, the business of the city is moving forward.
“The business of every department…every nook and cranny of the city… is getting done,” contends O’Reilly. “There are about 16.8-million dollars in capital projects that they [city staff] are undertaking and still moving forward on.”
