A fire which has been burning since mid-July has now prompted the Thompson Nicola Regional District to issue evacuation orders for a pair of properties northwest of Lytton.
The two properties, located at 3892 and 3907 Spencer Road North, are located in Electoral Area “I,” (Blue Sky Country).
This is the result of the Stein Mountain fire, which was first discovered on July 12th.
The fire is believed to have been lightening caused, and flared up around the same time the nearby Ponderosa Creek wildfire was first discovered.
The Stein Mountain fire now stands at 333 hectares.
The Lytton First Nation already has a number of properties in the same area under an evacuation alert.
BC Wildfire is using a “modified” response to the fire, meaning its allowing it to continue to burn, while “using a combination of techniques with the goal to minimize costs and damage while maximizing ecological benefits from the fire,” according to the BC Wildfire Service. “This response method is used when there is no immediate threat to values.”
Those forced from their homes due to the new evacuation order are being told to rally in Lillooet.
