The RCMP is issuing a warning for those in the Fraser Canyon, noting tourists and locals of a new evacuation order south of Lytton.
“Fraser Valley Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order for the area of Kookipi Creek Wildfire along both north and south sides of the Nahatlatch river,” noted the alert. “Due to the threat to life and safety you must leave the designated area immediately. Failure to do so could result in injury and loss of life.”
It warns all residents and visitors to leave the area immediately.
“BC Wildfire Service is implementing tactical evacuations,” said the notification via Alertable.
The RCMP is warning drivers to avoid taking the TransCanada through the Fraser Canyon as a result.
“This Evacuation Order area is near Highway 1 and continued fire activity could place traffic at risk,” said BC RCMP in a release. “Police are urging motorists to avoid the area and to find alternate routes for your own safety.”
