An evacuation alert that covered the entire Village of Lytton has been lifted by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
The alert, which was put in place due to the Kookipi Creek fire late in the evening on Aug. 17, covered all 216 properties in Lytton. All of those properties have been given the all-clear going into the Labour Day long weekend.
The TNRD has also rescinded an evacuation alert for about 34 properties in the Lytton area, as pictured here.
“Should conditions change, an Evacuation Alert and/or Evacuation Order will be reinstated as necessary,” the TNRD said.
The 169-square kilometre Kookipi Creek fire is burning between Lytton and Boston Bar, west of the Trans-Canada Highway. It led to a two-week long closure of the highway in both directions between Boston Bar and Lytton.
There are several evacuation orders and alerts issued by the TNRD, the Fraser-Valley Regional District, and a number of area First Nations due to both the Kookipi Creek fire and the nearby 47 square kilometre Stein Mountain fire that remain in effect.
The lightning-caused Kookipi Creek fire has been burning since July 8.
This lightning-caused Stein Mountain fire has been burning since July 12. It flared up around the same time the nearby Ponderosa Creek wildfire was first discovered.
