Kamloops native Mark Recchi will be inducted into the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame when the Flyers host the Boston Bruins at Wells Fargo Center on Jan. 27 next year.
The 55-year-old Recchi – a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame – spent ten of his 22 NHL seasons with the Flyers in two stints from 1991-92 to 1994-95 and from 1998-99 to 2003-04.
He put up 627 points (232 goals and 395 assists) in 602 games as a Flyer, leaving him sixth in franchise history in assists, ninth in scoring and game-winning goals (39), and tied for 12th in goals scored with current Vancouver Canucks head coach, Rick Tocchet.
Recchi’s 123 points (53 goals and 70 assists) during the 1992-93 season still stands as the Flyers’ record for most points in a season. He joins Bobby Clarke as the only other Flyer with multiple 100-plus point seasons in orange and black.
“As a teammate of Mark’s, I can ensure that no one deserves this exclusive honour more than him,” Keith Jones, the Flyers’ President of Hockey Operations said. “January 27 will be an outstanding day for our franchise and for Mark and his family as we celebrate all his Flyers accomplishments.”
Recchi will become the 28th inductee into the Flyers Hall of Fame and the first since the 2021-22 season when Tocchet and Paul Holmgren were inducted.
“This is a tremendous honour and one I was not expecting to get the call for,” Recchi said. “My time in Philadelphia meant a lot, still means a lot, to me and I am very thankful to be the next inductee into the Flyers Hall of Fame.”
“I look forward to sharing this memory with my family, the fans, fellow Flyers Alumni and the entire Flyers organization.”
A three-time Stanley Cup winner during his playing career, Recchi won two more Stanley Cups as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins front office in 2016 and 2017.
