It’s another feather in the cap for the relationship between the City of Kamloops and Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc.
At this week’s UBCM convention, the two local governments were given the Presidents Committee Choice award for their work on reconciliation.
Added in 2021, the award recognizes a community the UBCM Presidents Committee believed deserved special recognition for “exemplary demonstration of excellence and outstanding achievement in relation to a current issue.”
“So that was a great honour, and shout out to all of our city staff and so forth who work so hard to make that work,” Councillor Margot Middleton said on NL Mornings.

In May last year, Kamloops and Tk’emlúps were the inaugural recipients of the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators’ Collaboration Award with External Organizations award for their “innovative” relationship and partnership towards reconciliation.
They were also presented with the British Columbia Reconciliation Award in June last year, and honoured by the Lieutenant Government for demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to furthering reconciliation in January.
Also at the UBCM convention, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District got an honourable mention in Excellence in Service Delivery category.
It was for the Ashcroft Library Service Extender program, which lets people use the library after hours.
