The Kamloops Blazers appear to have solved their goaltending conundrum as they’ve released Matthew Kieper.
The 19-year-old Winnipeg native was traded to the Blazers in January, adding some much needed depth last season as the Blazers hosted the Memorial Cup.
Kieper went 10-1-1 in 13 starts as a Blazer, with a 3.13 goals against average and an 0.899 save percentage with one shutout.
He went 1-0-1 this season, picking up the win against the Vancouver Giants on Sept. 29, and the overtime loss to Wenatchee on Oct. 8.
The move means the Blazers will keep 19-year-old Dylan Ernst and 17-year-old Jesse Sanche as their goaltenders for the 2023-24 season.
Kieper remains on the Blazers’ 50 player protected list, though he is free to pursue other opportunities in the WHL or in other leagues.
Blazers will run with Ernst (19), Sanche (17). Kieper goes 10-0-1 in his starts as a Blazer and provided the team with some much needed depth during the Memorial Cup hosting season. I think it won’t be long until he’s back in the WHL. https://t.co/pEXapkVfDP
