Kamloops Blazers Head Coach Shaun Clouston is headed to the World Junior Hockey Championships this winter.
Clouston and Gilles Bouchard of the QMJHL’s Sherbrooke Phoenix have been named assistant coaches on Team Canada with Alan Letang of the OHL’s Sarnia Sting serving as head coach.
Canada will be looking to win its third straight gold medal at this year’s World Juniors, which takes place in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Clouston was part of the group that helped out at the Under-20 World Junior Camp in Calgary this summer.
The Viking, Alta. native won two gold medals with Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at the 2014 and 2015 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, as well as a bronze medal at the 2016 men’s Under-18 World Championship.

This is the fourth consecutive year with Kamloops Blazers representation on Canada’s World Junior Team.
Logan Stankoven and Caedan Bankier played on the 2023 team that won gold, Stankoven and Dylan Garand won a gold in 2022, while Garand and Connor Zary won silver in 2021.
Blazers forward Fraser Minten – who is currently with the Toronto Maple Leafs – is also expected to make Canada’s 2024 World Juniors team.
With 547 wins split between the Blazers, the Medicine Hat Tigers, and the Tri-City Americans, Clouston is the WHL’s active leader in coaching wins, and eighth all time, one win behind Ernie McLean.
While Clouston is away with Team Canada, Don Hay – the winningest coach in WHL history with 750 – will take over as the Blazers Interim Head Coach.
