A four point night from Mathew Ward in his return home to Kamloops helped the Swift Current Broncos double up the Blazers 6-3 Tuesday night.
The Blazers had plenty of shots but they were unable to capitalize on their chances – in part due to a stellar 40-save outing for Broncos goaltender Reid Dyck – as Kamloops’ losing streak extends to seven games.
The Broncos meanwhile snapped a lengthy losing streak at Sandman Centre that dated back to 2008.
Josh Filmon scored the only goal of the first period to put the Broncos – who haven’t played in Kamloops since Oct. 15, 2019 – up in the fourth game of their BC Division road trip.
Ward’s first of the night gave the visitors at 2-0 lead, but the Blazers came right back with a pair of goals from Dylan Sydor and Connor Levis in 1:47 to leave the game tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes of hockey.

The Blazers came out strong in the final period, but it was the Broncos who capitalized, scoring three unanswered goals. Owen Pickering and Mathew Ward scored power play markers, before Rylan Gould added the insurance marker to make it 5-2 midway through the period.
The two teams then traded goals – a power play marker for the Blazers’ Logan Bairos on a 5-3 was cancelled out by Van Eger’s empty netter in the final few seconds of the game.

Emmitt Finnie had assists on three Blazers goals, while Bairos had a pair giving him a three point night of his own.
Dylan Ernst turned aside 21 of 26 Swift Current shots in a losing effort, while Dyck stopped 40 of 43 shots he faced to earn the win.
The Blazers are back in action on Friday night when the host the Medicine Hat Tigers at Sandman Centre at 7 p.m.
Ahead of the game, Stingray Radio, parent company of Radio NL surprised Blazers play-by-play broadcaster Jon Keen during the pre-game show with a plaque commemorating his 20 years as a WHL broadcaster.

This totally caught me off guard tonight. 20 years.
Stingray’s Pete Angle, & President Ian Lurie caught me live on-air for this presentation in our pregame. Fitting the @SCBroncos are here for this one. That’s thoughtful. Really awesome decor for the booth. Thank youpic.twitter.com/XhSor8lm6C
