Greg Kyllo, the BC United MLA for Shuswap, will not be seeking reelection next year.
Kyllo – who was first elected in 2013, and reelected in 2017 and 2020 – announced his decision to step down Tuesday.
“It has been an incredible privilege to serve the people of Shuswap and to work alongside the BC United team,” Kyllo said, in a statement. “While this hasn’t been an easy decision, I look forward to spending more time with family – especially my grandchildren.”
“Although I won’t be seeking re-election, I remain committed to working for the people of Shuswap and holding David Eby’s NDP to account until the next election.”
Kyllo is currently serving as BC United’s Deputy Whip and its critic for Labour and Skills Training. Prior to being elected as MLA, he was the President and CEO of Twin Anchors Marine/TA Structures for 24 years.
“Much appreciation is owed to the dedicated staff at the Salmon Arm constituency office, the Executive of the Shuswap Riding Association, and the countless volunteers who have passionately supported me in the last three elections,” Kyllo added.
In addition to his time in office, Kyllo has been a passionate advocate for social causes, most notably the annual Movember campaign. He’s helped BC United – and the former BC Liberals – raised more than $100,000 to support men’s health.
Four other Kamloops area MLAs – Peter Milobar, Todd Stone, Jackie Tegart, and Lorne Doerkson – have announced plans to seek reelection next year.
The next B.C. provincial election is scheduled to be held on or before October 19, 2024.
