The Mayor of Lytton says they were over 100 people who were part of a rally on Wednesday to protest continual delays that they say have hampered their ability to rebuild after the fire of 2021.
Wednesday marked 840 days since the devastating wildfire destroyed much of the village and killed two people.
Denise O’Connor says Lytton residents recognize the area is of archeological and cultural significance to the Nlak’pamux First Nation. But she says people are frustrated at the repeated delays to rebuild their community.
O’Connor says Wednesday’s rally, which was initiated by residents, aims to raise awareness about the slow rebuilding process, noting many residents feel “totally neglected” since the fire destroyed their homes.
