Calling all designers – the Kamloops and District Chamber of Commerce is looking for someone who can design a Kami the Fish ornament ahead of the holiday season.
Chamber Executive Director Acacia Pangilinan tells Radio NL the call to action comes after numerous calls from Kamloopsians who were hoping to see more Kami merchandise.
“I was actually tagged in a conversation that took place over social media with some Kami enthusiasts from the community,” Pangilinan said.
“This is really [Nevin Webster’s] idea and he brought it forward and wanted to see if there was a way that we could make it work and we thought, ‘what a good way of celebrating Kamloops and getting into the holiday spirit.'”
Pangilinan says people who are interested can contact her by email, noting she hopes to have a designer picked by the end of next week.
“We’d really like to find somebody local who can help us design this ornament, Pangilinan said. “We want something that can be produced in time for the holidays. There are a lot of creative and unique ideas out there but I’m letting people to be mindful of the timeline.”
Kami the Fish, also known as Kami the Trout, has gained a resurgence in popularity a few years ago after the Kamloops Chamber took on the design and began using it as a marketing tool.
The Chamber has stickers, growlers, koozies, and camping mugs for sale right now. It also released limited-edition Kami the Fish toques in 2019, and socks earlier that year.
“I guess stay tuned because there might even be some more Kami merch before that,” Pangilinan said. “We’ll wait till its all firmed up and we’ll be sure to let everybody know.”
“The community has told us loud and clear that they want more Kami, and so we’re looking at our members to see what we can bring for the holidays and into the new year as well.”
