An online fundraiser has been launched for TRU WolfPack men’s volleyball player, Owen Waterhouse.
The Kelowna native has been identified as the third person who was involved in Wednesday’s crash in Kamloops that killed Owyn McInnis and severely injured Riley Brinnen.
“Owen remains in a medically induced coma and is in critical condition, in care of the phenomenal team in ICU at the Royal Inland Hospital,” GoFundMe organizer Lynn Bogert said.
“He has sustained severe brain trauma and life will be forever changed.”
Waterhouse, a six-foot-three outside hitter was in his second year of Canada West eligibility with the WolfPack.
“Owen is an extraordinary young man who lights up any room he enters with his smile,” Bogert added. “His love for his family, friends, all animals and every imaginable sport, is known to all. His bear hugs and “tarps off” TikToks are infamous.”
“Owen is supported by his incredible family and very close-knit community of friends from both Kelowna and Kamloops. The love for this family is far reaching and widespread.”
The fundraiser, which was launched Monday morning, has already raised about $30,000 of its $50,000 goal.
“Owen and the Waterhouse family not only need our love, strength and positive energy but assistance in supporting them with the unexpected financial burden of living away from home, and all the treatment and rehabilitation that will be involved on the long, unpaved road ahead,” Bogert said.
“These are unchartered territories and all the support possible will be appreciated beyond words.”
