Opening date at the Harper Mountain Ski Resort near Kamloops has been postponed indefinitely due to warm weather and a lack of snow.
In a post on Facebook, owners of the ski hill near Paul Lake – which is usually open from mid December to late March – say they’ve been spending the past few weeks preparing to open the mountain this Saturday.
“The snow base earlier this week was groomed, packed and brush cut, all very nicely, on all the ski runs, needing one or two snowfalls to enable a safe opening,” the post said.
“The last few days have been warmer with a little rain. As we all know weather forecasts can change very quickly. So while we cannot open this Saturday, we won’t set a new date quite yet, until we see the actual results of the weather forecast, which is calling for snow.”
People who have season passes to Harper Mountain will be able to access discounted lift tickets at Sun Peaks Resort in the interim.
“Our goal is to open as soon as we possibly can,” the post added. “Thank you everyone for your patience, let’s keep those snow dances going.”
