Kamloops saw its first significant dump of snow this season last night – and its likely going stick around as temperatures plunge into double digit negatives later this week.
It caused there to be some slippery roads in the City last night, with videos posted to social media show vehicles sliding down 1st Avenue in Kamloops, with issues also reported near Royal Inland Hospital and on some arterial roads like Summit and Columbia.
In an update at 10 a.m., Kamloops Fire and Rescue said it has responded to 11 motor vehicle incidents in the last 24 hours.
“The first real snowfall reminds us it’s a good time to slow down,” KFR said, while also reminding people to ensure their vehicles are completely free of snow before they hit the road.
There are reports of slippery conditions on major highways in and around Kamloops, including the Trans-Canada Highway from Spences Bridge all the way to Glacier National Park.
Slippery conditions are also being reported on the Yellowhead Highway North of Kamloops past Clearwater.
Travel advisories have been lifted on the Coquihalla Highway and Okanagan Connector, however winter conditions – and some slippery sections – remain.
Environment Canada says there could be another 20 to 30 cm of snow on the Coquihalla today before things ease off tomorrow.
There is also a snowfall warning on the Yellowhead from Tete Jaune Cache to the Alberta Border as well on the Trans-Canada from between Eagle and Rogers Pass.
The weather agency says 10 centimetres expected to fall in both those areas today before things ease off tomorrow.

It took a long while, but the snow is finally here in downtown #Kamloops.
Sub-zero temperatures over the next few days, means it should also stick also around for a while. pic.twitter.com/clyf7Aj0eg
