A pair of former Kamloops Blazers stars will play in the 2024 AHL All-Star game next month.
Logan Stankoven of the Texas Stars and Olen Zellweger of the San Diego Gulls will make their first all-star appearances on Feb. 4 and 5 in San Jose.
Stankoven leads all AHL rookies in scoring with 15 goals and 39 points, along with a +11 rating through his first 31 professional games.
The 20-year-old is second in AHL scoring behind fellow Texas teammate Mavrik Bourque, who has 41 points. Bourque and Matej Blumel were also named all-stars Wednesday.
A second-round pick of the Dallas Stars in the 2021 NHL Draft, Stankoven was named AHL rookie of the month for November. His 11-game point streak from Nov. 10 to Dec. 9 tied a Stars franchise-record 11-game point streak with 16 points (8-8=16)
The Kamloops native is into his first season of professional hockey after an award-filled junior career with his hometown Kamloops Blazers, that included him being named to the Canadian Hockey League First Team All-Star in 2022-23 and the CHL’s Player of the Year in 2021-22.
