UPDATE Feb. 20, 7:30 a.m.: The Dallas Stars have officially recalled Logan Stankoven from the Texas Stars ahead of their Tuesday night game against the New York Rangers.
ORIGINAL: Former Kamloops Blazer Logan Stankoven could make his NHL debut at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.
While there is no official word yet from the Dallas Stars, Stankoven is making his way to New York to join the Stars, who are on a four game Eastern Conference road trip.
Stankoven could slot into the lineup for forward Matt Duchene, who sat out the Stars 4-3 shootout loss in Boston on Monday with a lower body injury. Dallas also lost forward Evgenii Dadonov to injury last week.
While Stankoven is in transit, there is no guarantee he’ll be in the lineup against the Rangers. The Stars also play in Ottawa on Thursday and Carolina on Saturday before returning back to Texas.
The Kamloops product has been patiently waiting for his NHL debut as the AHL leader in points (57). He’s also second in goals (24) and fourth in assists (33) in 46 games with the Texas Stars. Stankoven also leads all AHL rookies in goals, assists, points, and shots on goal (147).
Stankoven was named the AHL rookie of the month for November and played in the AHL All-Star game in San Jose earlier this month.
The 20-year-old Kamloops native spent four seasons with the Blazers and was a second round pick of the Stars in 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
He was named CHL Player of the year in 2021-22, and captained his hometown Blazers when they hosted the 2023 Memorial Cup last summer.
Sounds like @LoganStankoven is on his way to join the Dallas Stars on the road in New York. They play the Rangers tomorrow. No word if he will be in the lineup yet or not. #Kamloops
