The Thompson-Nicola Film Commissioner says she can’t say whether some scenes from Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us are being filmed in the Kamloops area at the moment.
Terri Hadwin was asked about rumours circulating online that show a large and seemingly abandoned grocery store called ‘Greenplace Market’, in the Padova-area of Kamloops. That market is a location from the video game series on which the TV show is based.
“There is quite the following for that TV series but wouldn’t be able to speak to whether they’re filming in our area right now,” Hadwin said.
“But I know that they are filming all over B.C. and yeah, I’m really excited for Season 2 to come out.”

Production on Season 2 of The Last of Us – starring Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, and Kaitlyn Dever – began on Feb. 12, with production expected to wrap up in August.
While Season 1 was based on the 2013 video game of the same name, Season 2 is expected to cover the events of the sequel, The Last of Us Part II, when it airs in 2025.
“I just think that it generates a whole lot of community pride knowing that they can see those stars on the screen, whether it be in their homes or on the big screen,” Hadwin said, of major productions like Tracker, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Jurassic World Dominion that were filmed in the area.
“It generates a whole lot of excitement I think.”
The first season of The Last of Us, one of the most talked about TV shows of 2023, was filmed in Alberta to much fanfare.
Hadwin also told Radio NL she has met with “five or six” other different productions who are considering shooting their TV shows or movies in the Kamloops area.
“Anytime we bring film production into our area and they see what we have for locations and how we have exceptional hospitality here and how we love working with the film industry, its just going to snowball every single time,” Hadwin said, noting most of her recent meetings have been to do with movie productions.
“I think its going to be a very very busy 2024.”
