The BC Green Party has named Randy Sunderman as its candidate in Kamloops Centre in the upcoming fall provincial election.
Sunderman, who ran for a seat on Kamloops City Council in 2022, says there are a number of reasons why he decided to run provincially.
“There are a number of issues I’m pretty passionate about, be it the environment or municipal issues that we’re facing,” Sunderman told Radio NL.
“I have the passion, and obviously I feel my background in economics, and I also have a biology degree helps me with some of the issues with the provincial government. I’ve been working on provincial government issues for over 30 years now.”
Sunderman says he has undertaken numerous projects in the Kamloops area over the last 30 years while also working on projects across the country. He notes his areas of expertise include economic development, business planning, socio-economic assessments for land use planning, and economic assessments for major projects.
Sunderman has been an active community volunteer over the years, sitting on several boards and committees.
“I am honoured to represent a party that deeply values the balance between our environment, social welfare, economic integrity, and healthcare excellence,” Sunderman said, in a statement. “With Kamloops poised for growth and diversification, now is the time for innovative, evidence-based approaches, and I look forward to working hard in a collaborative fashion to ensure these crucial initiatives succeed.”
Sunderman will be going up against incumbent BC United MLA Peter Milobar and BC Conservative Candidate, Dennis Giesbrecht. Incumbent Kamloops Councillor Bill Sarai has also announced his intention to run for the NDP, though he has yet to be formally nominated.
The next provincial election is set for Oct. 19.
