Kamloops native Logan Stankoven has been named to the 2023-24 AHL All-Rookie Team, despite not having played a game since making his NHL debut in late February.
The 21-year-old Texas Stars forward, who has been playing for the Dallas Stars for the past two months, put up 57 points (24 goals and 33 assists) in 47 AHL games in his first season of professional hockey.
Stankoven – the AHL’s Rookie of the Month in November – still leads all AHL rookies with 57 points, and is tied for second in assists and tied for third in goals.
Drafted 47th overall by the Dallas Stars in the second round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Stankoven is the first Texas Stars rookie to surpass 50 points since Jason Dickinson tallied 53 points (22 goals and 31 assists) in 2015-16.
His 57 points is the second among all first-year Texas players, trailing Curtis McKenzie, who had 65 points (27 goals and 38 assists) in 75 games in 2013-14.
Stankoven is also the third Texas rookie to be named to the AHL All-Rookie Team, joining McKenzie (2013-14) and Riley Damiani (2020-21). Both McKenzie and Damiani went on to win the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award as the AHL’s Most Outstanding Rookie.
Since making his NHL debut in Carolina, Stankoven has 14 points (six goals and eight assists) in 24 NHL games.
He scored his first NHL goal on his 21st birthday, and is still eligible for the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year next season.
