RCMP are investigating the third shooting in as many days in Kamloops, though they say no injures have been reported in any of the incidents.
Police say they were called to the 800-block of Sudbury Avenue around 4:15 this morning, May 4, to reports of shots fired and a vehicle speeding away. Minutes later, police say they received another report of three men with firearms running behind the 1200-block of 10th Street.
They say a suspect who was found hiding at a nearby commercial property nearby was arrested, and a red BMW with damage that appeared to be caused by gunfire was seized.
“This shooting, along with the previous two shots fired reports received since Friday, are believed to be related to an ongoing conflict between local drug traffickers,” Kamloops RCMP Superintendent Jeff Pelley said.
“Our frontline officers and support units including Serious Crimes, Targeted Enforcement, Crime Reduction, General Investigation Support Team, and Forensic Identification Services, are working tirelessly to address this risk to public safety associated to those involved in criminal lifestyles.”
Saturday’s shooting comes one day after Mounties were called to the 1200-block of 10th Street after shots were fired at a house in that part of North Kamloops. A silver older model Volkswagen Jetta that was seen leaving the scene was found abandoned on 13th Street.
Police were also called to a report of shots fired at the Star Lodge motel in the 700-block of Columbia Street on Thursday evening, May 2. Details are limited, but police say evidence was seized at the scene as part of investigation.
“We understand these kinds of violent crimes are concerning to the community, and rightfully so, considering the risk they present to all residents,” Pelley added, in the statement.
“As we work to advance these investigations and hold those responsible to account, we continue to reach out to the public and ask for its assistance and support in reviewing security footage, reporting activities that could be related, and contacting police with information they may have about those involved.”
Police say two people have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigations.
People with video or information, who have not yet reached out to police, are being to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference 2024-13098.
