Kamloops RCMP are looking for a suspect after a Monday afternoon shooting at the Ramada Hotel on Columbia Street, the latest targeted shooting in the city over the past several days.
Mounties confirmed that one person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a targeted daytime shooting at the hotel’s parking enclosure just before 7 p.m. Monday, May 6. They say they found the man with “visible injuries and a vehicle damaged by gunfire” when they got to the scene.
Police also say a silver car was seen fleeing the scene, though there is no information about a make or model.
“This latest incident is believed to be a result of the ongoing conflict between local drug traffickers, which was also responsible for a series of targeted shootings reported this weekend,” Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Todd Wiebe said, in a statement.
Police say the suspect is a man, standing five-foot-10 to six feet tall, with a lean build and a hunched upper back.
He was wearing a black baseball hat with white decal on front, a black jacket with a sheen to it, dark joggers, black gloves with a red trim around the cuff, and sunglasses at the time.
Mounties say they remain on scene Tuesday to investigate the shooting – the fourth in the last five days- and to “suppress the violence.” The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit-BC Uniform Gang Enforcement Team is also assisting local RCMP officers with the investigation.
“As our teams continue their efforts, we’re asking residents to please be aware that these targeted attacks are occurring in public settings and present an increased risk to safety,” Wiebe added.
“The Kamloops RCMP Detachment has multiple resources working tirelessly to advance these investigations and is asking the public to work with us by being aware of their surroundings and being vigilant in reporting suspicious occurrences or suspected criminal activities that could be related.”
People with information including video, dash camera footage, or other details that may be relevant to these shootings are being told to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000.
