The Kamloops Blazers have acquired overage forward Oren Shtrom from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for 19-year-old defenseman Vojtech Vochvest.
Shtrom recorded a career best 13 goals and 27 points in 66 games last season. He also had three goals and eight points in 15 playoff games as the Cougars were beaten in the Western Conference Final.
The Arizona native has 71 points (29 goals and 42 assists) in 172 career WHL games.
The five-foot-ten, 176lb forward will be suiting up for his fourth team having also spent time with the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Everett Silvertips.
Shtrom becomes the second 20-year-old player on the Blazers roster going into the 2024-25 season, joining goaltender Dylan Ernst. The Blazers are able to add one more overage player.
Vochvest, the Czechia native, put up five assists and 60 penalty minutes in 67 games with the Blazers in 2023-24, his first season in North America.
The trade opens up an import spot for the Blazers, who hold the second overall pick in the 2024 CHL Import Draft, which is scheduled to take place on July 3.
Additionally, both teams get value for players who likely wouldn’t have been on the roster in the fall. Cougars deep in with several ’04’s, Blazers with a glut with the import slots.
