People heading to the Lower Mainland for Father’s Day weekend are being told to watch for as much as 5 cm of snow on mountain passes in the B.C. Interior.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the entire Coquihalla from Kamloops to Merritt that is expected to remain in effect on Saturday and Sunday.
A similar statement is also in effect for the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna, the Trans-Canada between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass, and on Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton via the Allison Pass as well as between Grand Forks and Creston via the Kootenay Pass.
“An upper low will bring a cool airmass to the BC Interior this weekend,” the statement said. “The colder air along with occasionally heavy precipitation means the mountain passes can expect some snow through the weekend.”
“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”
Drivers are being told to check Drive BC for the latest road conditions as winter tire requirements in B.C. were lifted on May 1.
Similar special weather statements were also in effect going into and coming out of the May Long Weekend.
