The Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the Cook’s Ferry Indian Band are bringing in new water restrictions on the Spences Bridge Community Water System, effective immediately.
It says the restrictions are needed as the system water use is at risk of running as water use is exceeding the current production capacity.
“All outdoor watering must be ceased immediately until further notice,” the TNRD statement said.
“Please note that hand watering of vegetable gardens may continue by hose with a spring-loaded nozzle. Further steps may be necessary if water consumption is not reduced by customers during this Mandatory Water Conservation Notice.”
Both the TNRD and the CFIB say the restrictions are not related to the wildfires burning in the area. That said, it comes hours after the band has issued an evacuation order for IR 6 – Nicoelton, with evacuation alerts in place for IRs 5, 5A, and 19 to the south and east.
“Please be advised that the area within the Community Water System boundaries is currently not at risk, and no Evacuation Alerts or Orders are in place for this area,” the TNRD statement added.
“If structural protection is required, responding agencies including the BC Wildfire Service would draw water from other sources, including surface water from the Thompson River.”
The TNRD says the Spences Bridge Community Water Systems serves approximately 135 customers within Electoral Area “I” and portions of the CFIB.
“The TNRD and CFIB are currently working to expand water production capacity, and updates will be provided promptly as the situation changes,” the statement said. “The TNRD and CFIB appreciate the understanding of affected residents during this time.”
