UPDATE 4 p.m. – The Cooks Ferry Indian Band has issued an evacuation order for one of its reserves near Spences Bridge because of the Shetland Creek wildfire, which has grown to 285 hectares in size.
The order applies to IR 6 – Nicoelton, with evacuation alerts in place for IRs 5, 5A, and 19 to the south and east, which remains in proximity to the 249 hectare Teit Creek wildfire, which is burning in steep, inaccessible terrain.
The band says in a statement that no other orders or alerts are in place for its reserves within the community of Spences Bridge.
The BC Wildfire Service says the two fires were displaying rank 4 behaviour on Monday evening, meaning a highly vigorous surface fire with torching of trees.
While ground crews had to be pulled back from the Sheltland Creek fire Monday evening, the BC Wildfire Service says it has four helicopters responding to both these fires. No ground crews have been able to work on the Teit Creek fire because of the steep and rocky terrain.
The smaller Teit Creek South fire is still estimated to be 0.1 hectares in size, with another 1.5 hectare fire burning two kilometres south of Stein Valley, west of Lytton area.
