The BC Wildfire Service has issued an area restriction order for the Shetland Creek wildfire in the Fraser Canyon.
“This area restriction reflects the need to protect public and BC Wildfire Service personnel safety in areas where fire suppression activities are taking place,” said the Kamloops Fire Centre in a release.
The order is effective as of noon today, and will remain in-effect for the next two weeks.
“This Order takes effect at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on July 30, 2024, and remains in force until the earlier of 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on August 13, 2024, or until the Order is rescinded,” said the Fire Centre.
This will limit the movement within the fire zone to authorized personnel, as well as locals moving too and from their properties, which aren’t under an evacuation order.
At this point, the TransCanada through the region remains open.
However, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has warned that Highway 1 could be shut down at any time, depending on fire activity.
