The Shetland Creek wildfire near Spences Bridge is now considered “held.”
The BC Wildfire Service says doesn’t anticipate the 280 square kilometer fire to spread any further.
The Service says smoke will remain visible as crews continue to work on hot spots.
It comes after the Thompson Nicola Regional District was able to give the “all clear” to 80 properties in that area on Thursday.
“Good progress made, and good containment work, by the crews on the east flanks, the north flank, and the eastern section of the south flank of the fire,” said Dave MacKinnon with BC Wildfire’s Shetland Creek team at the time. “We’re feeling really good about where those sections are in terms of containment. We’re not expecting any further growth.”
An area restriction order does remain in-effect in the fire zone, meaning only locals and authorized personnel are allowed into the area.
19 properties the Venables Valley area still remain on evacuation orders.
This is due to a lack of running water.
The fire destroyed at least 20 structures including six homes in the Venables Valley in the days after it was first reported on July 12th.
It is still classified as a “Wildfire of Note.”
