Work on next year’s Kamloops Y Dream Home is officially underway with the commencement of the 2025 Training House project in Westsyde.
Located at 3562 Sage Drive, this year’s training house marks the 35th anniversary of the partnership between the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior (CHBA CI) and students at Thompson Rivers University’s School of Trade and Technology.
“Today, we kick off our project with a unique twist – embracing a construction-themed ceremony in place of the traditional ribbon-cutting,” incoming CHBA CI president Chris Cromwell said.
“This event not only marks the start of the project but also celebrates our community’s dedication and collaboration.”
This project gives students hands-on experience in the field as they’ll spend the next several months working on the foundation and frame of the house.
“This practical, real-world training is crucial for developing the skills necessary in the carpentry field,” Cromwell added. “By participating in this initiative, students not only enhance their learning experience but also help address the current labor shortage by becoming highly skilled carpenters ready to enter the workforce.”
This year marks the 29th anniversary of the partnership between the CHBA CI and the Kamloops Y, as the house will be part of the 2025 Y Dream Home Lottery that will take place in the spring.
“The 2025 Training House Project launch event successfully celebrates the spirit of collaboration, education, and community engagement that defines this annual initiative,” the CHBA CI statement said.
“The Canadian Home Builders’ Association Central Interior looks forward to another year of growth, learning, and positive impact on the local community.”
