The B.C. Greens have named John Kidder as their candidate in Cariboo-Chilcotin as the party continues to get ready for next month’s provincial election.
The Ashcroft-area resident is a founding member of the BC Greens in 1983, making it the first Green Party in North America.
“John Kidder has been a staunch advocate for environmental stewardship and social equity for decades,” the BC Greens said, in a short bio. “Running in Cariboo-Chilcotin, John is committed to providing voters with a Green alternative and advancing sustainable forestry and economic policies.”
Kidder previously ran for the B.C. Greens in Fraser-Nicola in 2013 and finished third.
He also sought federal office twice – for the Green Party in Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon in 2019, where he finished fourth, and for the Liberal Party in Okanagan-Coquihalla in 2011 where he finished third.
The 77-year-old Kidder has been married to Green Party of Canada leader, Elizabeth May since 2019. He’s also the brother of late actress Margot Kidder, who is best known for playing Lois Lane in the original Superman films.
Kidder will be running against B.C. Conservative candidate Lorne Doerkson and Michael Moses of the NDP.
