The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says work to rehabilitate the Halston Bridge in Kamloops is expected to wrap up next month.
In a statement to Radio NL, MOTI says the bridge which connects Highway 5 North with North Kamloops is expected to be back open to four lanes by the end of this month.
Work began in July 2023, two months later than initially planned, with crews expected to working to resurface the bridge deck, replace the deck joints, as well as other improvements at the east abutment of the bridge.
“After starting the work, crews discovered that additional repairs were needed on the deck surface and joints,” MOTI said in a statement. “The additional work required an extension to the schedule.”
MOTI says the final finishing work on the Halston, which is scheduled to happen in October, may require additional lane closures.
“Work will take place during the evening to avoid delays in the area,” the statement added.
In April last year, when the project was first announced, MOTI said when complete, the Halston bridge which carries approximately 23,000 vehicles a day “will be safer and require less surface maintenance than before.”
