The BC NDP have picked Salmon Arm Councillor Sylvia Lindgren as the party’s candidate in the riding of Salmon Arm-Shuswap.
In a statement, the NDP says the two-term councillor has a record of “taking action on issues that matter to the people in her community.”
“People across Salmon Arm-Shuswap need a government that will take action to strengthen public services and tackle today’s big challenges head-on,” Lindgren said, in a statement. “The David Eby I know is on the side of regular people and fights to help them get ahead.”
“John Rustad has a 20-year record of cuts and higher costs [and] he’s a risk we cannot afford. I’m ready to work every day so that the people of Salmon Arm-Shuswap can build good lives in the community they love.”
This will be Lindgren’s third attempt at representing the Shuswap as she finished runner-up to the retiring Greg Kyllo in 2017 and in 2022.
There are now confirmed candidates in the Salmon Arm-Shuswap riding as Lindgren will be going up against Jed Wiebe of the BC Green Party and David Williams who will represent the BC Conservatives.
Former Enderby Mayor Greg McCune was tapped to take over the BC United banner from Kyllo, but those plans were halted after leader Kevin Falcon suspended the party’s campaign in late August.
In a Facebook post Thursday, McCune said he would announce his plans for the election “in the next few days.”
“By no means is this the end of my journey however, I must take time to reflect on the future,” McCune said. “Once a decision is made, I will share it with you all.”
