The troubled Red Bridge in Kamloops has reopened to vehicle traffic.
DriveBC confirmed the bridge, which was shut down through Tuesday, began allowing vehicle traffic around 9 a.m. Wednesday.
A fire on Tuesday morning on the southern support beams of the bridge spread to one of the north piles before it was extinguished.
“The ministry’s structural assessment determined that the integrity of the bridge was not compromised by the fire and that the bridge is safe for use,” the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure told Radio NL in a statement.
“The new wooden beams were in place before the fire and were not part of the fire response.”
RCMP have not revealed the possible cause of the fire.
Mounties were called out at around 6:45 Tuesday morning to assist Kamloops Fire and Rescue with traffic control after the fire.
The bridge was reopened to pedestrian traffic shortly after the fire.
