Previous sanctions against the Mayor of Kamloops related to his work on external boards have been extended by Kamloops council, representing another financial hit for Reid Hamer-Jackson.
In a decision from a previous closed meeting earlier in October, it’s been learned that council has voted to keep Hamer-Jackson from resuming his seat on the Thompson Nicola Regional District board.
This means Hamer-Jackson will not be eligible for the roughly $17,000 in pay he would receive from the Regional District for being a municipal representative on the TNRD board.
Hamer-Jackson was first removed from his TNRD and Kamloops Airport Society Board roles on July 19th, after council determined he was not willing to accept or adhere to recommendations laid out in Municipal Advisor Henry Braun’s report from April of this year.
“He will be off the TNRD and the Kamloops Airport Society until he comes and applies to council, in a closed meeting, to let us know as to why he should be back on the TNRD or the Kamloops Airport Society,” said councillor Mike O’Reilly, the Deputy Mayor for October. “He has a list of the things that we are wanting to see before he’s allowed back on those.”
Hamer-Jackson’s profile is no longer on the Regional District’s web page which profiles the TNRD’s Board of Directors.
Kamloops councillor Stephen Karpuk, who took over Hamer-Jackson’s position at the TNRD when the suspension was issued in July, will continue in that role.
This comes as council had already moved this month to cut the Mayor’s salary by 15% for a one-year period, after it determined Hamer-Jackson violated council’s Code of Conduct and the Community Charter by publicly releasing confidential information.
Hamer-Jackson had already been going through a six month, 10% pay reduction for a separate Code of Conduct violation which is due to expire in November.
It’s unclear at this point if council plans to extend the original financial hit.
