A warning for drivers using the Coquihalla through Monday.
Environment Canada has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Merritt to Hope section of highway, with 20 centimeters expected to hit the Summit area through the day.
The weather office is also predicting 5 to 10 centimeters on the Merritt to Kamloops stretch through the course of the day.
This has also prompted a warning from Yellowhead Road and Bridge, the company which maintains the Coquihalla.
“The system is expected to start at the south end of our service area and move north through the morning hours, switching from snow in the morning to rain as temperatures warm up throughout the day,” said YRB Nicola in a bulletin issued on Sunday. “Lower elevation routes should stay as rain while the high elevations could see rain/snow mix. With warmer temperatures there is a risk of slushy snow and pooling water. Keep this in mind when climbing over high elevation routes and drive according to changing road conditions.”
YRB Nicola is reminding drivers that their crews are in “Winter Work Mode” when their lights are flashing.
“Remember to never pass a plow truck on the right and road conditions in front of the plow truck will be worse than behind it,” noted YBR Nicola in its bulletin.
Meanwhile, Environment Canada has also issued a Wind Warning for travelers using Highway 97 between Clinton and 100 Mile House, with wind gusts of up to 90 kph expected through the afternoon.
