The City of Kamloops has unveiled its plans for this year’s Senior’s Light Tour.
This year’s tour — the 48th edition of the popular event — has been set for Thursday, December 12th.
As per a policy change first started last year, the City has changed up the route the tour will take this year.
“Every year we are going to have a different area of Kamloops covered,” noted Community Events Coordinator Janvi Desai. “This year it’s going to be the Sagebrush area, the Upper Sahali area and Aberdeen area which is going to be covered.”
Last year’s event followed a downtown Kamloops route.
The City is encouraging home owners along this year’s tour to make an effort to brighten up their properties if they can.
“Even small displays can help brighten the evening and spread seasonal cheer,” noted the City.
The City and BC Transit have identified 20 different locations throughout Kamloops where seniors can be picked up to begin their evening.
“Individuals who require handyDART service should register for the Light Tour first and then schedule their handyDART transportation by calling 250-376-7525,” noted the City.
Desai says while registration is mandatory, the event is free of charge, with the City only asking those involved to keep note of the weather.
“We would only ask them to be prepared for the cold. That’s it. In case you need any accessible help or anything, we have volunteers at every bus stop.”
The Senior’s Light Tour will start at 6:30pm from the Sandman Centre, where it will also conclude with live music and refreshments.
Volunteer positions for the event have already been filled up.
“This event would not be possible without the generosity of everyone involved,” said the City. “The City extends a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers and transit drivers who dedicate their time to continue this long-running, successful, and joyous event.”
