Kamloops RCMP are looking for help in trying to sort out a seemingly frightening incident from this past weekend, in which a child reported being threatened by someone with a gun along one of the trails in the eastern part of the Juniper Ridge neighborhood.
Police say they were told by the young person — whose age or other particulars have not been detailed — the situation took place on one of down-slope trails leading out from the Capilano Drive area in east Juniper last Saturday.
The child told police they were walking along one of the paths, seemingly by themselves, in the late afternoon on December 28th when they came across a man sitting on a log next to one of the trails.
No details about the interaction were provided, but RCMP says the child reported to them the man pulled out a gun and started chasing after them.
The chase apparently ended when the young person managed to make it to the roadway.
No precise details of the location have been provided, but mapping suggests the incident would most likely have taken place in the trails which link up to the Capilano Place cul-de-sac.
Mounties say they were called in a few hours after-the-fact on the Saturday.
“Around 7:00 in the evening, frontline officers responded to a call after a youth had allegedly been threatened with a firearm while on a trail earlier that day, around 4:00 in the afternoon,” said Kamloops RCMP in a statement.
“Officers attended and surveyed the area, obtained statements, and canvassed for video,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson.
While no other situations like this have been reported since, the RCMP are asking locals in East Juniper Ridge area to offer up any assistance they can.
“We are turning to the public in an attempt to obtain more security or dash camera footage, witnesses, and information that could help further the investigation,” said Cpl. Evelyn.
The details of the suspect are somewhat limited.
He’s said to have been a white man, with a brown moustache and beard, and was wearing all black.
The description included a toque, medical mask and a fanny pack.
No other details on clothing, as well as height or weight descriptions have been provided, nor how a moustache was seen with a medical mask involved.
Anyone with further information is asked to reach out to the Kamloops RCMP detachment.
