Kamloops RCMP say one man was taken into custody following a late Tuesday afternoon break and enter.
Multiple officers responded in response to a man who had allegedly broke into, then barricaded himself inside a residence. At around 5:00, Kamloops RCMP Detachment frontline officers were called to the 100-block of Angus Street after a person returned home and found an unknown man inside. The homeowner quickly left.
“On scene, officers observed a person in the home’s basement who appeared to be armed with an item and smashing things,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP Detachment spokesperson. “The person was known to police and they had interacted with him twice earlier that day.”
The Southeast District Emergency Response Team was contacted to assist and after multiple attempts were made to convince the man to come out, the SED ERT was able to use response tactics that were able to procure the suspect’s safe surrender.
The man is being held for a bail hearing.
The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is appreciative to those in the neighbourhood for their patience and cooperation during the police response.
